It would be cool having that knowledge but I am afraid that if I did if I would be corrupt or not. Power does cause corruption.

Challenges / Re: C++ Calculator
« on: June 21, 2012, 09:51:54 am »
I really do not understand why professors insist on using system commands.
I can understand it if the class is an introduction to Microsoft Windows programming.
But even then, they should warn their pupils of the dangers.

To ApplezJuice: Do you intend to further build upon this application?
Nope, and Celestial is right. I am following his tutorial and putting what I learned to the test.

What should I use instead of system("pause")?

Hi, this is my first post!

So, I saw that you just posted this code. I felt like looking at it, and I wanted to share a few suggestions! If that is ok with you, of course.

First, I notice you are missing the "return" statement at the end of the program. Not a big issue, but I feel that the code is incomplete without one..
Second, I notice that entering the number 5 does not exit the application.
Third, I notice that you are missing input validation.
Fourth, I notice the use of "system ( "pause" );".

Other than that, it looks nice so far!

*sorry if this post sounds harsh; I didn't realize how new you are to programming.

Woops! Totally forgot to change the case 5! Thanks for the input!

C++ / Re: [9] Fun with Functions
« on: June 20, 2012, 05:44:38 pm »
Hiyas!

Question regarding you calling the function

void count(int x);

in int Main() you call count(i);
Why do you call count(i); rather than count(int x);?

Sorry for the noob question, very new to programming!

Thank you!

*EDIT*
Looking over the code, inside the () are variables so that is not what is called correct? You are technically calling "count" for the variable "i" yes? Correct me if I am wrong.

Hello everyone! I just started my journey into the world of programming! I am in the introduction to computer programming class at my local junior college and wish that one day that it will be my career. I have joined this forum to further my knowledge :)

Also on the verification questions for the registration, you should change the answer from the question "Is the current year 2011 (yes or no?):" to no rather than still being yes. Took me a little to figure out that my captcha wasn't wrong it was just a wrong answer on this question.

Welcome to the forums. If you wanted to further your knowledge, this is a good place since you will find many things here tried out that you won't find else where on the internet(for some odd reason).

Thanks for the update on that captcha... I guess it has been a new year for a while now. Lol
Thank you, and that is good to hear. Glad that I found a good home! ^_^ Also no problem on the update!
