Visual Studio Code Formatting
« on: June 22, 2012, 01:01:47 am »
Hello Guys.

So. Like many people, I love and need source code formatting. I have tried many, many C++ IDEs and editors to get the formatting I want.
Unfortunately, I have never been completely satisfied. To say the least, Microsoft Visual Studio has one of the worst code formatting functionality I have ever used.
However, it also has some of the best features and functionality (in other areas) that I have seen.

So what to do? Search for hours and days finding code formatting plugins/extensions/macros to get what I want. I am positive many of you have been doing the same thing.
So what's the hype? I have found an AMAZING 'plugin?' for MVS. It is called 'ProFactor StyleManager' and is free, believe it or not.
It is extremely customizable. The only iffy thing about it is that you must install it like normal software. So theoretically, it is not a plugin. But it works like one after installed.

I highly recommend anyone who loves using MVS to look into this software.

I always format the code myself. Makes it look neater.

That is a loaded statement.
Did you make software to do it?
Or do you ambitiously scroll through your code to format it line by line?

I format it line by line as I type it.

I never was a fan of programs that format your code.

I try and code with proper formatting when I type it out, I find programs break the code sometimes then I have to fix it.

Yes. That is prone to happen. But I find it usually happens with more advanced code.
I prefer to use formatting software because I hate doing that kind of stuff manually.

I am almost sure you can adjust the formatting in Visual Studio to whatever you want. (I'm assuming you are referring to things like tab styles, brace completion, newlines ect).
